Travel Guide

Like any truly great holiday destination, the location of Ice Driver takes a little effort to get to. This guide will help you prepare for Ice Driver and provides some useful tips on booking travel. We're often asked which is the best way to travel to us from Stockholm - by train or plane. So this page has been specially written to explain the differences between the two and will help you to decide >>>

How to prepare.

  • Just like any other winter holiday.
  • Lots of layers that can be easily added and removed,
  • VERY IMPORTANT - A HAT (preferably a very silly one) and some gloves.
  • Normal footwear plus something with a grippy sole for general walking.
  • If you've a pair of cool Sparco boots for driving in, they're about as warm as in-flight slippers when you're standing on a frozen lake, so bring something with a thicker sole for when you're not driving.
  • Sunglasses for the glare from the lake.
  • Sun cream and lip balm.
  • The daytime temperature is zero or below, dropping to -35 at night. The dry atmosphere means the snow is nothing like the sloppy stuff you see in the UK. It's lovely winter sports type stuff.
  • If you're coming from the UK, obtain an E-111 card if you don't already have one from The post Office or online from The Department of Health here>>> . This ensures free health care anywhere in the EU.
  • Video cameras and digital cameras! And don't forget the spare batteries and memory cards.

So is it hard to get to?

Probably the single most asked question. Like any great holiday, it takes a little effort, but nothing arduous. After all, you wouldn’t go on safari and expect to see a lion on the tarmac at Nairobi airport!

Your initial destination in Sweden is Stockholm Ardanda airport. This serves as a hub for your onward travel. We recommend travelling north from Stockholm Arlanda airport using the Intercity Ski Train from within the airport, though if you wish, you can fly on to Ostersund Airport where we can meet you. Rail travel in Sweden is clean and efficient and often flying is false ecomony once you factor in the security hassles and wasted waiting around time.

At the foot of this page are links to airlines and useful rail booking information.

Option 1.

Arrive at Stockholm Arlanda airport, schedule your flight to arrive around lunchtime. After passing through Arivals, make your way towards Sky City and the signs for Arlanda C station. Collect your tickets from the machine and take the escalator to the station platform. Relax on the Intercity train until you arrive at the station of Bräcke. We’ll be there to collect you. Typical train time is 4 hours.

Option 2.

Arrive at Stockholm Arlanda airport, schedule your flight to arrive around lunchtime. Take an onward flight to Ostersund airport where we will meet you for a road transfer to the hotel. Road journey time is 1 hour. Typical journey time 4 hours including waiting around, luggage collections etc.

Everyone’s instinctive reaction is to fly. However, there’s little to choose in the total journey time, so it comes down to personal preference. We will collect you from either location.

Booking Train Tickets

How to book rail tickets online and at Stockholm Arlanda.

It is not possible to book trains online and pay using a card registered to a non - Nordic address. Instead, use the travel website "Booking Sweden at http://www.swedenbooking.com

Once there, click on 'Timetables' and enter 'arlanda central' in the 'from' box and 'Bracke' in the 'to' box. Fill out the rest of the fields and click the "SOK' button on the bottom left. This will give you timetable information. Once you have selected your train times, email the SwedenBooking office from the link on their website with your details and they will take payment and arrange tickets, They supply a booking reference that you simply key into the ticket machine at Arlanda and your tickets are printed.

When looking at train times, book either X2000 tilt trains or the Inter City.

Alternatively, buy a ticket from the counter just beside the station if you want to speak to a real live human being.

Accommodation

Hotel accommodation is included in your Ice Driver package. However, should you have any particular requirements such as single room, non-sharing or a family room, there may be an additional charge due. Please inform us when booking if you have any requirements.

You are responsible for your bar bill and any other extras charged to your room. Please settle this before leaving on your final morning.
