How To Prepare
The daytime temperature is zero or below, dropping to -35 at night. The dry atmosphere means the snow is nothing like the sloppy stuff you see in the UK. It's lovely winter sports type stuff. Things to Bring:
  • Lots of layers that can be easily added and removed.
  • A silly hat and some gloves.
  • Normal footwear for driving plus something with a grippy sole for general walking.
  • If you've a pair of cool Sparco boots for driving in, they're about as warm as in-flight slippers when you're standing on a frozen lake, so bring something with a thicker sole for when you're not driving.
  • Sunglasses for the glare from the lake.
  • Sun cream and lip balm.
  • If you're coming from the UK, obtain an E-111 card if you don't already have one from The post Office or online from The Department of Health here>>> . This ensures free health care anywhere in the EU.
  • Video cameras and digital cameras! And don't forget the spare batteries and memory cards - cards are cheap, so shoot lots of pictures, see our photography guide here >>>
